Short description

The Saxon Incubator for Clinical Translation (SIKT) is the continuation of the Translational Centre for Regenerative Medicine (TRM), which was funded by the BMBF until the end of 2015. The modern research institute in the heart of Leipzig, funded by the Free State of Saxony, is a central facility of the University of Leipzig and cooperates closely with the Faculty of Medicine, the University Hospital, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Helios Heart Centre.

Research activities focus on novel diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the three core medical areas of cardiovascular medicine, skin and connective tissue, and liver.

The SIKT enables innovative, third-party funded groups to conduct research under the guidance of experienced mentors. Scientists find support through services provided by core units with expertise in three areas: animal husbandry/preclinical research; quality management/technology platform; and bioimaging.

The high-quality infrastructure includes a large number of laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and enables research at the highest level, with the aim of developing clinical approaches for therapy and diagnostics for previously unsolved questions in the core areas.

The aim of the SIKT's work is to accelerate the translation of research results into clinical practice in order to generate sustainable added value for Saxony.
